People ask me all the time how to change beliefs. If you haven’t already done personal cognitive work on yourself by now, then most likely, anything spoken is a block to what you desire.
The Buddha said, “We need a trusted friend to point out personal faults.”
Change the Mind
It’s not a straight line from one unhappy event today directly to an unfortunate childhood situation; instead, the subconscious becomes layered by your life experiences. The mind is a multi-layered grid. There’s not one pattern of fear or anger. Each layer has different types of experiences embedded in it and getting to the root of issues takes time.
The mind is tightly wound around past hurt and anger. We can see it today in society, how people polarize their thinking. Past and unresolved experiences cause the mind to become resistant and bitter. The looping commentary in mind is formed from past emotional exchanges that have yet to be resolved.
To get into the subconscious and change patterning takes you listening very carefully to what you say and once you notice the limiting words or phrase to change them immediately to something positive. For example, someone might say, “I can’t ever get well.” Change to “I get well easily or I am well.” The more you repeat positive phrases, the easier it will be for you to change your mind.
Do you drive the same way to work every morning? Sit in the same seat on the bus or train? Change it or the driving route next time, and you’ll change something in the subconscious mind. Or turn the furniture around in your bedroom and you’ll change patterns too. Change limiting belief into life-enhancing beliefs and notice how illness might disappear. Note: depending on the disease you’ll need to heal biologically too.
Visualization
Here’s a guided practice–Imagine wearing a heavy winter coat, and everyone comments on how beautiful the coat is on you. People say, “It’s so you.” However, your inner dialogue is saying something different. You’re tired of wearing it, and you hate how it looks on you.
Imagine unbuttoning the coat and mindfully dropping the coat off your arms; watch it fall to the floor. Now step over it and walk away from it. Notice if there are any attachments to the coat? What is pulling you back to the coat? Be honest here. Do you want to look at the coat or pick it up again? If so, do whatever you feel like doing with the coat. You can even talk to the coat or even shout at the coat. Resolve whatever is necessary, but don’t leave the coat in anger. Leave the coat peacefully.
The coat represents the tapestry of your life, old experiences, out-worn thinking and habitual thinking you acquired over the years. Even though other people say the coat is lovely, you realize you don’t fit into it properly anymore. The symbology here is—friends, family, and colleagues might say, “Everything is okay.” Or side with your bad behavior or attitude, yet inside you are suffering. It’s time to let go of subconscious wounded stories and move on.
Four Tips to Change
Here are a few simple ways to address the subconscious, but all do require paying closer attention.
1). Slow down and listen to yourself talk, especially about something you want. For example, I was working with a client, and she said, “I can never get well” that’s a mental block. A friend recently asked, “Why am I so sick?” As she sat down to eat a stack of pancakes with syrup. We don’t notice the things blocking us and, in this case, making her ill.
It is challenging to see our patterns because we are so accustomed to our mental habits and naturally don’t realize how we stop ourselves. Think of your reality as a tapestry, a fabric woven into everything you do. Notice where the weave tangles up, like a necklace chain that becomes knotted. It’s here where the mind gets blocked.
2). Pick apart things you don’t like in friends and family. Why? Because they are showing you parts of yourself. Anything you criticize is also in you. Of course, this works the other way too, everything you love in your friends and family is also in you. Change yourself, and you’ll see different reflections of yourself. It’s a powerful way to realize what is out of balance in you.
3). Dream analysis is another good way to search for subconscious patterns. Dreaming is part of the subconscious mind. Dreams rarely make sense, and that’s how the subconscious mind works—it’s not logical or linear, which infuriates the conscious mind.
4.) I see the subconscious like a vinyl record album. The subconscious mind becomes grooved from repeating the same thing over and over again. To change, pick up the needle, place it to another part of the record album, and start thinking something different.
The four steps listed above are easy to practice and implement into your daily routine. But, with all things, mastering something takes practice. Remember to recite life-enhancing statements all day long. Like I Am Happy!!
Remember to enter into the subconscious and change patterns, remain mindful, slow down and listen to what you are saying to find the correct statements causing you to move forward.
